Book Drum is a really interesting new site which sets books into context. Find the book and read about the author, the setting, look at interactive maps, use a glossary and lots more. You can also contribute yourself, if you are over 18.

This site would be very useful for A-Level or GCSE students, for the English Department, or readers who just want to find out more about their favourite books!

Hunger Games and Dystopian Novels

Are you a fan of the Hunger Games? When you might want to read more novels with a similar theme or genre. These are called “dystopian novels” as they are usually set in the future when conditions of life are extremely bad due to deprivation, oppression, war or terror. These books are very exciting with strong characters. You won’t want to put these books down!

New Trainee Helpers needed

We have a fantastic team of Student Helpers from Year 7 upwards who work in the library on one lunchtime each per week (or more if they are really keen).

Student Library Helpers…

run the Desk – issuing, returning and renewing books and so on.
tidy the shelves and put books back.
help students using computers and make sure our ICT equipment is being used safely and properly.
help students to search for books on SearchStar and then help them find books on the shelves.
support Mrs Robinson and any other member of staff using the library at lunchtime!

Why not apply now?

We now have spaces on Wednesday and Thursday lunchtimes and need some more people to train.

If you are in Years 6 to 8, please call in to the Library and ask for an Application Form. Then fill it in and return it to Mrs Robinson by Monday 26th March 2012. If you are in Year 9 or above and would like to be a Helper, then please talk to Mrs Robinson.

All students at The Dixie Grammar School will get their £1.00 voucher today and we are running a second hand Book Sale in the Library at lunchtime. These are books withdrawn from the Library to make way for new ones.
